The presidential candidates talked about what they feel are the best ways to generate revenue for our country, and how it should be spent.

Whatever the case, U.S. Senator Tom Coburn said too much of our tax-money is being wasted.

He has released Wastebook 2012, the latest in his series of annual reports on what he feels are misused tax dollars.

According to Dr. Coburn more than $18 billion has been spent wastefully.

FOX23 asked voter Isaac Almaguer how he felt about Moroccan pottery.

“What is that,” said Almaguer.

According to Dr. Coburn, the $27 million project was designed to teach Moroccans how to design and sell pottery in domestic and international markets with the help of American instructors.

"I know Tulsa Public Schools are hurting right now, we've got a lot of teachers getting laid off we need a lot of help in the schools,” said Almaguer.

Researchers spent a portion of the $325,000 grant to fund a robotic squirrel. The squirrel was designed to see if a snake would attack after seeing its robotic waging tail.

“We've got issues with education, with our roads; we've got issues with older people and health care," said voter Jeff Wetterman.

Coburn says another $300,000 was spent promoting and producing caviar.

Closer to home, the report shows $450, 000 was spent to keep a rarely used airport open to land more federal funds. It’s happening at Lake Murray State Airport.

“We have people who are starving,” said voter, Will Kinnebrew.

Coburn said the nearly $19 billion he outlined pales in comparison to the overall federal deficit, which tops $16 trillion. He said the items are snapshots of the bigger problem.

Too many insider interests involved. I'm sure the person who designed and built the robotic squirrel was a distant relative or friend of a politician/lobbyist. This has been going on for hundreds of years and will not stop anytime soon. Some people just think a handout is owed to them. I like the ketchup comment, if the ketchup comes out of the bottle too fast, people will just complain and want the old bottles back haha
