The biggest concern for areas north of Tulsa will be an increasing chance of icy streets Thursday morning.

The Washington County Emergency Management Director, Kary Cox, and his team are keeping an eye on all the snow that has melted along Highway 75 to see if ice forms.

“You never know what's going to happen," said Sharon Longley, a manager at QuikTrip.

The mother of two lives in Owasso, but travels every morning to Bartlesville for work. She has to be in at 5am. Thursday, she’ll be hitting the road at least 20 minutes earlier than usual so she can make it to work safely.

"I grew up in northern Indiana so you just go slow and take your time," she said, but Longley also knows even that may not be enough.

"I packed an extra set of clothes just in case I go in a ditch; I have warmer clothes to wear," she told FOX23.

However, with ice expected Thursday, Cox is advising many of the early commuters to delay their travels. Many people in Bartlesville work in Tulsa and vice versa.

"There is a little bit of concern on ice accumulation this evening," said Cox.

The county is expecting a tenth of an inch of ice Thursday. Cox says it may not seem like a lot until you factor in the wind; together it could be enough to cause power outages in some areas. The ice and wind can cause trees to break and hit power lines, but the big concern is still what the ice can do to drivers on the road.

"Once we see the ice accumulation they'll be out there with the sand trucks," Cox told FOX23.

Those crews will be constantly monitoring Highway 75 which carries the most traffic in and out of the city.

"Be extremely cautious and expect the roads to be slick and hazardous," said the emergency management director.

Cox also encourages anyone leaving or coming to Bartlesville in the morning to make sure they have either a bag of sand or kitty litter to help cars regain traction on roads that are very slick.
