Oklahoma Highway Patrol and game wardens assisted the Adair County Sheriff's Office by serving warrants on Wednesday.

They served close to $3 million in felony warrants in and around Stilwell.

There are more than 600 outstanding warrants in Adair County. Law enforcement said the warrant sweep was to try to close the gap.

Warrants varied from domestic abuse, guns, drugs and poaching.

The agencies organized state and local agencies and rounded up warrants and addresses for 600 outstanding felony warrants.

"We'll have a busy day today," said Sheriff David Hardin.

Hardin said it's a steep number and in some cases, a public safety issue.

"These warrants have been issued for a reason," he said.

FOX23's Brittany Jeffers rode along with the undersheriff during the sweep. After a few stops, a man was taken in on outstanding felony warrants for domestic abuse.

Then 15 minutes later, FOX23's cameras were rolling when another man was arrested for escaping arrest.

Jeffers found out when he was booked at the jail, a substance on him tested positive for meth.

But with hundreds of warrants, plenty of doors weren't opened.

"We have to be resilient and just keep trying," said Undersheriff Jarrod Brown.

Sometimes the warrant can't be served because people aren't home or they moved.

The undersheriff said that's just a reality of the job.

"It's a transient area and people move around and it is hard to locate people when they are moving constantly," said Brown.

Whether it ends with an unanswered door or an arrest, law enforcement says sweeps like this bring them answers.

"We just keep looking," said Brown.

Obviously jail overcrowding is of no concern. Thanks for the photo-op.
