Police said a Green Country elementary school teacher is out of jail on bond after she assaulted nine students during classes last month.

Now, Verdigris Elementary School teacher April Cohenour is facing more than half a dozen charges of assault and battery.

Police booked Conhenour into the Rogers County jail Wednesday.

One student's mom didn't know that until she picked up her child on Thursday.

"That kind of bothers me; I was never informed of this," she said.

Assistant Police Chief Officer Darrin Hester told FOX23 that teachers are legally allowed to use force if it is justifiable, like defense. But he says the investigation showed the teacher used force that couldn't be justified or excused.

The alleged victims are all children, ranging from 7 to 10 years old.

Superintendent Mike Payne sent a statement about the incident:

"The Verdigris Public Schools is committed to the safety and wellbeing of all its students. Because this is a personnel matter and no additional comments will be made."

Candice Perryman said she wants to know why the school didn't tell her about this.
"She better not be allowed back on property, or my kid won't come back," said Perryman.

Payne did confirm that Cohenour is on paid administrative leave.
