A prenatal health care center near 61st and Peoria is not being used to its full potential.

City Councilor Jeannie Cue said the clinic is basically being underutilized.

It's meant to fill a big need in that part of Tulsa. A small medical clinic was built after a task force identified it as a way to help improve the area of 61st and Peoria.

But some say what was meant for good isn't being utilized enough.

The maternal health clinic offers free pregnancy tests, women's health care and a host of other options.

The clinic is affiliated with St. John Medical Center and is part of a medical mission by the In His Image nonprofit organization.

Doctors say people in this area don't just need love; they also need counseling, prayer and help.

But Cue said many aren't taking advantage of the valuable services offered.

"We need to make sure that we utilize this clinic and show there is a need in this area. We know the need is here we just have to get the word out," said Cue.

The clinic opened up two months ago and nurses said they average about a couple of people who walk in on a daily basis.

They do take insurance, but they will also see you if you don't have any, you will just have to self-pay.

The clinic is open Monday from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
