Too many boxes and not enough ways to ship them quickly.

UPS told FOX23 the company's delivery system was simply overwhelmed by demand this holiday season.

Plus, the UPS pilots and drivers didn't work today, so many gifts that could have been one step away from your front door didn't make it under the tree this year.

FOX23 went to the UPS store to see how these delays are affecting people in Green Country.

We started simply by searching through our Facebook page, and found out that many people are upset because either they or their loved ones were without gifts this Christmas because of the shipping delays with presents.

For many people, Christmas dinner and family and friends were the highlight of their holiday because they were expecting a gift that was shipped via UPS.

"It's terribly disappointing because we ordered these things on Dec. 1," said one upset UPS customer.

UPS officials told FOX23 that this year, for the first time, they got swamped with an overwhelming number of packages.

We spoke with victims of this problem who contacted us via social media.

Some people, like Bob Terrell, said he still has two packages in Louisville, but his reaction was, "Stuff happens and the world isn't always perfect."

Others like Jessica Prince of Tulsa said her husband ordered her gifts two weeks ago and she still hasn't received it yet.

The company blames a surge in e-commerce, and they say the ice storm hit just as the shipping rush began.

If you ordered from Amazon, they are refunding shipping and even giving $20 gift cards to customers who were affected by delays.
