SAPULPA, Okla. (AP) — Authorities have released details of an accident that killed a storm chaser featured on The Weather Channel and another man on a turnpike near Tulsa.
The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said Monday 55-year-old Sapulpa resident Gregory Gilcrease and 24-year-old Andrew Gabrielson suffered massive injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident on the Turner Turnpike. Gabrielson was a storm chaser.
Troopers believe Gilcrease's pickup truck was traveling west in the eastbound lanes of the turnpike about 3:30 p.m. Saturday when it collided with Gabrielson's sport utility vehicle head-on. Two other drivers were injured.
A statement on The Weather Channel's website says Gabrielson was headed home after chasing storms in Texas. He was from Luverne, Minn.
Gabrielson was a frequent contributor to severe weather coverage on the network.
