Winky #8 ^]] I agree. As long as they can punctuate a fire. Firemen are true everyday Heros.

I wouldn't exactly describe the current state of our world as "thriving", Bob. Yet, I don't think the rampant hostility & antagonism that we humans show each other is due to the fact that too many people are either under-educated or lazy when it comes to grammar or syntax. Instead, I believe it's because far too many of us forget that NO ONE is perfect, our very own selves included. I can accept quaint, no problem there. Too bad that "kindness" can be described the same - as an old-fashioned, out of style "fad" way past its prime. We live in a culture that celebrates hatred & violence, and some people really do feed off of it, I suppose. Why else respond to a cute little article (awash in a sea of far more negative stories) with such ire & blatant disgust? "Notorious" may be an apt nom-de-web, but it's hardly a handle of which one should be proud. Good luck to you, though.

Bob, that "seen" was from a direct quote (notice the quotation marks) from a firefighter, not a journalist. As far as I'm concerned, firefighters are heroes no matter how poorly they may punctuate their sentences. Therefore, he gets a free pass (as well as my respect & appreciation for the risks he takes in his job daily, all on behalf of perfect strangers). You, however, do NOT get a free pass. As a former journalism major (and current white-collar professional), I was highly offended by your disparaging comments. What really makes "Americans look stupid" are the snap judgments too many of us make about others, often inaccurately and unfairly. Life isn't fair, and not everyone gets to attend college. A better measurement for judging others may be how WELL they use what they have in their noggins, as well as the size of their hearts (i.e. Compassion, Empathy, etc.). Just sayin'.
