A 9-year-old Tulsa boy is in protective custody after police say his parents tortured him.

Eulalio Rangel and Andrea Lang are both facing felony charges of child abuse and neglect for the crime.

Police tell FOX23 News it was at a family event on Sunday that family members noticed injuries on the child that were scabbed over. That’s when they called Police.

Officers say they weren’t able to catch up with the family right away. No one answered the door and the child didn’t show up to school on Monday.

Later Monday evening, police found the family, and found the 9-year-old with over 30 marks on his body in various stages of healing.

Even veteran detectives are calling the injuries “horrific.”

“This is not just a child being spanked or punished for some wrong doings by their parent, these are significant injuries. This child was tortured,” Tulsa Police spokeswoman Jill Roberson says. “He was tied up with a belt, his hands were tied, and he could not break free.”

Police say they believe the child was tied up and then beaten with belts and cords.

The child is now in protective custody. Both Rangel and Lang are booked in the Tulsa County Jail with a bond of $100,000 each.
