Tulsa police found a man shot and killed outside his apartment complex in south Tulsa just before 4 a.m. Sunday. Police are still searching for the suspect.
TPD homicide detective, Sgt. Dave Walker identified the man as 42-year-old Kevin Hawkins.
It happened at the Lewiston Apartments.
"Hawkins was getting out of his car with his girlfriend early this morning when a man with a handgun came up to them and pointed it at his girlfriend and demanded her purse," said Walker.
The woman told police Hawkins walked around the front of his car and then the man pointed the gun at him and demanded Hawkins' wallet.
"That's when a fight turned deadly," said Walker. "These knuckleheads get a gun and point it at you they can go off in an instant and from a robbery it turns into a murder."
Police said Hawkins was shot in the stomach and the suspect ran away.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-2477 or the homicide tip line at 918-798-8477. You can also email TPD at email@example.com.
