The Tulsa Fraternal Order of Police announced Wednesday it will endorse Kathy Taylor for mayor instead of Mayor Dewey Bartlett.

This comes after a unanimous vote; the police join the firefighters by supporting Taylor for mayor.

“The FOP studied both candidates’ crime prevention plans and unanimously determined mine is the right choice to keep our families safe,” Taylor said. “I'm proud to have the endorsements, support and trust of all of Tulsa's first responders - the firefighters and now the police.”

Mayor Dewey Bartlett released this statement:

“Once again Kathy Taylor is trying to hide from her record as mayor and failing to talk about how high the crime rate was when she was in office. Kathy Taylor’s spending policies are what put Tulsa in the position to have to layoff police officers, Taylor choose to devote Tulsa’s limited resources to purchasing a fancy new city hall building instead of setting aside dedicated funds for the Tulsa Police Department.”

Bartlett will lament it was the economy which may be partially true BUT that whole episode of who's driving the bus his 2nd Simonson was supposed to go get the grant to make payroll. Simonson wasn't able to cross all the t's and dot all the I's in order to obtain the grant from DOJ:-( At the same time Girl Scouts of Green Country petitioned for a similar grant and won the concession. Yes maybe either one of these highschool class presidents for ribbon cutting ceremonies. For other monies a city manager to keep the bus running.

I knew the Tulsa Police were dumb as rocks (as an organization). But, WOW!

Taylor never stood up to the police union, Bartlett did. This is the union that threw it's own rookies under the bus by choosing layoffs rather than cutting back on TPDs wasteful spending. Every other city department cut back except TPD, who continues to spend tax dollars with little accountability. Do we really want the union that prevents the city from disciplining bad cops deciding who the mayor should be?
