A Tulsa man is alive thanks to a neighbor who ran into his burning apartment to save him.
The Tulsa Fire Department honored that hero on Friday.
Ricardo Andrade said he walked out of his home when he saw smoke coming from the apartment, and he knocked on every door in the building.
When he realized people were coming out of every apartment except one, he decided to go in.
"I just realized it was a big fire. I didn't see anyone so my first reaction was to go over and make sure nobody was there," said Andrade.
The Spartan College student knocked on the door and when no one answered, he went inside. He found a man unconscious and carried him out.
"To be honest, it's great. They gave me an award for something I felt like was a responsibility of mine," he said.
"We get opportunities to help people every single day we just have to look into them."
