While a gate surrounds Fairmont Terrace, hardly anyone here feels safe at the 61st and Peoria apartments.
Yet again, police are searching for answers and neighbors are concerned.
"I had a friend that used to live in Fairmont," said Marion Khondaker.
Khondaker told FOX23 that she never felt safe visiting.
"I didn't feel comfortable parking," said Khondaker. "I didn't feel comfortable leaving the car. I thought someone would steal it."
Khondaker said she never witnessed a crime happen right in front of her, but she got an eerie feeling that something wasn't right. By the numbers it's clear, trouble was around.
In Tulsa's District 9, over the last two years, according to TPD, in the areas of 51st to 71st, from Riverside to Peoria, there have been more than 1,800 burglaries; 1,100 aggravated assaults; more than 400 robberies and 26 people have been killed.
"This is an area that they've consistently had problems with. Consistently focused on," said City Councilor, G.T. Bynum. Bynum said there are plenty of recommendations to stop the violence.
"We need to do a better job of advertising of how people can report crimes anonymously and reassuring that they are anonymous," said Bynum.
"Come forward, don't be afraid. That’s what law enforcement is for," said Khondaker.
Khondaker's friend moved to another city, so now she has no reason to visit the area. However, dozens of tenants don't have that option.
"I always go with my gut feeling. I just had a feeling," said Khondaker.
FOX23 placed a call to the new management of Fairmont Terrace, however, our calls were not returned. Bynum said more money is expected to go toward security for the apartments.
