Tulsa bus plant workers join UAW

Officials from the International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America say workers at the IC Bus Plant in Tulsa have decided to join the UAW.

The move comes after a majority sign up election was held at the plant last week. There are approximately 650 hourly emplyees at the IC Bus Plant that make IC Buses for Navistar.

"We are pleased to have these workers in the UAW," said UAW Vice President General Holiefield, who directs the union's Heavy Truck Department, "and we value our healthy and productive relationship with Navistar."

"Joining with other UAW members working at Navistar and other bus and truck companies only makes sense," said UAW Region 5 Director Gary Jones. "Our strength comes through solidarity and numbers and we gladly welcome these new members into the UAW," Jones added.

IC Bus of Oklahoma, LLC is a subsidiary of Navistar International Corporation, the nation's largest integrated manufacturer of school buses.

Navistar, based in Lisle, Ill., also produces commercial buses, commercial and military trucks, diesel engines and recreational vehicles.

The Tulsa bus workers will join 2,600 other UAW members at Navistar facilities in Indianapolis, Ind., Springfield, Ohio, Melrose Park, Ill, Atlanta, Ga., Dallas, Texas, Conway, Ak., and York, Pa.
