The Tulsa Sports Commission announced Camp Fire Green Country will be the 2012 Tulsa Run beneficiary.
Camp Fire Green Country will receive a $25,000 donation, in addition to media coverage and increased public awareness gained from being a part of Tulsa’s longest run race.
“For Camp Fire Green Country, partnering with the Tulsa Run provides the opportunity to support an event that encompasses many shared values – health and fitness for all ages, a celebration of the diversity of individuals and groups that participate, and building excitement and enthusiasm around our community,” Bobbie Henderson, Executive Director of Camp Fire Green Country said.
Camp Fire officials say the organization provides the opportunity for participants find their spark, lift their voice and discover who they are. Camp Fire Green Country serves more than 3,500 boys and girls pre-kindergarten through 12th grade each year in the Tulsa area, targeting service areas where families struggle with challenges associated with poverty and marginalizing factors. A partner agency of the Tulsa Area United Way, Camp Fire aims to ensure that no child misses out on the experiences, opportunities and relationships that equip and empower them for success, work and life.
“Since being named race director, the Tulsa Sports Commission has worked to further enhance the race's influence on the community,” Ray Hoyt, senior vice president of VisitTulsa and the Tulsa Sports Commission said. “The philanthropic aspect allows us to give back to Tulsans and to connect human stories with the Tulsa Run. Camp Fire Green Country is a great opportunity for the TSC to promote health awareness among youth. Camp Fire Green Country is a wonderful organization that serves a diverse group of youth in Tulsa and is an exemplary nonprofit organization.”
Tulsa Run organizers say the charitable giving committee’s goal was to choose an agency that could be the "face" of the Tulsa Run, reflecting the event's charity and community focus. Camp Fire’s mission to develop youth leaders and their diverse and collaborative approach to serving children who are challenged with poverty directly correlates to the Tulsa Run’s mission in partnering with a community non-profit.
