The Tulsa City Councilors will host a joint meeting with Oklahoma City Councilors on Thursday morning.

Council Chair G.T. Bynum initiated the meeting. He said the idea arose from Governor Mary Fallin’s group meeting with both the Tulsa and OKC Councils and both mayors at the Governor's Mansion in April.

“One of the goals for this Council is to break down barriers between governments in order to better serve our fellow Tulsans,” said Bynum. “We believe collaboration with Oklahoma's other major metropolitan area is another such opportunity.”

Other innovative partnerships this Council has initiated include recent meetings with area tribal leaders and representatives from Tulsa Public Schools, Union Public Schools and Jenks Public Schools.

Bynum said he hopes to come away from this meeting with more clearly-defined shared goals relative to the state legislature. He said the group is also hopeful that they will be able to develop ideas for how the Tulsa and OKC City Councils can work together in the future.

“Great things can be accomplished when Oklahoma's two largest cities join forces," Bynum said.

Items on the agenda include the discussion of regionalization, transportation and urban legislative interests. There is no action to be taken on any of the items discussed at Thursday’s meeting.
