They spent a week helping the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Monday night, a group of Tulsa doctors returned home and shared their stories with FOX23.
The doctors who came back Monday night were the 3rd group of doctors with "In His Image International" to go down to Haiti since the earthquake. They shared a dvd of pictures and videos that documented some of their heartbreaking and miraculous experiences.
Dr. Clint Olson told FOX23, he and his medical team still struggle with the devestation they witnessed while there.
Olson said, "We started talking as a team. It's just sadness. It's sadness. God's heart breaks for these people. Our heart breaks for them."
Dr. Olson and his medical team worked out of a school house turned clinic. They saw 300 patients every day, and still there were many more they couldn't get to.
Dr. Olson said, "It would be easy to feel overwhelmed in this situation and even hopeless. I think that's where faith comes in faith in God. And that there's hope."
Dr. Olson said that's why they were there, to spread a message of hope and faith in God.
FOX23 also got a phone call from another doctor in the group of doctors that relieved Dr. Olson's group. Still in Hati, one of the members of that team tols us about a man they helped save earlier the same day. He had been trapped under rubble for 22 days since the earthquake.
He told FOX23. "When we came here 3-4 weeks after the earthquake, we thought we'd be doing some follow up care that we'd have a chance to redress some wounds, but we had no idea whatsoever that we'd have a chance to help someone who'd been in the earthquake and been buried in that rubble for 22 days. It's astounding."
