A Tulsa County Sheriff’s deputy passed away on Monday morning.

Deputy Joseph Edward Masek died at the age of 53; officials believe he died from natural causes.

Deputy Masek started his career with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office in August of 1983. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in September of 1991.

Masek left Tulsa County to work for the Board of County Commissioners as a contract monitor at the David L. Moss Criminal Justice Center. When the sheriff's office reacquired operations of the David L. Moss facility in 2006, Masek returned to the office as a deputy.

Masek's also worked as a campus police officer with Tulsa Community College.
