Tulsa County Jail over capacity

Let's make sure these poor criminals are comfortable,let us not make them suffer like their victims did,let's spend hundreds of thousands a year on each one so the can have the best while the taxpayer who foots the bill does without,really think they should have a very strict punishment,do without the comforts of the outside world

This is what happens when jails and prisons are operated as for-profit businesses. Sadly, most people who pass thru are there for warrants associated with unpaid traffic fines or court costs. Oh, and remember that high-profile "Operation Tripple-Beam" warrants roundup this week? Did someone just not think this through?

poor babies...really feel sorry for them,get all hopped up on drugs and knock over a convenience store and this is how they treat you...cryin' damn shame

Why did they build a jail downtown anyways? What a waste of space and eye sore for the downtown scene. Could have built it further north where land is more abundant and probably cheaper. That would make too much sense though. With 603,000 people living in Tulsa county as of 2011, a jail with a maximum capacity of 1714 inmates is designed to house .2% of the population. According to the US Bureau of Justice Statistics, .7% of adults in the U.S. were incarcerated at the end of 2010. So yea, I could see why David L. Moss is over populated, whoever designed the facility did not look at the national average of incarcerated adults. Oklahoma probably doesn't have the highest crime rates in the country, but they could have atleast incorporated some cushion into the maximum capacity of the jail, say .35% of the Tulsa Country population, which would compute to a maximum capacity of around 2100 inmates. Surely the city of Tulsa considered these things when the jail was built. :)

i was in there recently and a pod is only supposed to house 94 inmates. there was 114 inmates in there. their were some that didnt have a cot because they were all being used and had to put their mat on the floor. there was some that couldnt get a mat because they were all being used and either didnt sleep or slept in the chairs in there....its ridiculous on what they will put u jail for now-a-days

Very easy way to drop that number, don't just throw everyone in jail, the ones that are a danger to society. I bet ya that would be cut in half. However they did do that big gang round up a week or two ago.
