Tulsa Community Foundation, the nation’s largest community foundation, established the Moore & Shawnee Tornado Relief Fund for those who are interested in supporting our friends in the areas devastated by the tornadoes of the past two days.

Funds raised will be focused on the mid- and long-term community redevelopment efforts to rebuild lives and homes in the devastated areas.

This fund already has a head start toward success with a lead gift of $100,000 from George Kaiser Family Foundation.

“Our Oklahoma neighbors in the Moore and Shawnee areas need our help now, and through this fund, TCF is providing Tulsans and others across the state and nation with a means to help those who have been forever impacted,” said Phil Lakin, Jr., CEO of TCF. “We thank GKFF for making the lead gift, but we know the needs are far greater than we can comprehend. We are Oklahomans, and when help is required, we run to provide anything and everything that is needed. Right now, we have families and children who are suffering. It’s the least we can do to create this fund. I only wish that we could do more – so much more.”

TCF will work with Oklahoma City-area community foundations and nonprofits to distribute the funds that donors give to this important effort.

The goal of the fund will be to address the needs of nonprofit organizations serving the Moore and Shawnee areas as they work on longer-term, not immediate, recovery efforts, which will require years of support. TCF will make 100 percent of the Moore & Shawnee Tornado Relief Fund available for recovery grantmaking needs in these areas.

Contributions to the Moore & Shawnee Tornado Relief Fund can be made securely online at www.TulsaCF.org. On the homepage, click the main banner to donate now. Donations can also be mailed to TCF offices at 7030 S. Yale, Suite 600, Tulsa, OK, 74136. All donations are tax-deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.

The Moore & Shawnee Tornado Relief Fund is not designed to meet the immediate, emergency needs of those in Moore and Shawnee, because many other agencies (like American Red Cross and Salvation Army), along with the state and federal government, will meet immediate needs. Distributions from the Moore & Shawnee Tornado Relief Fund will be made as the mid- to long-term needs of those in these areas are better known and can be best addressed by nonprofits and other experts in these communities.
