The Tulsa Airport Authority received a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award at the Esri International User Conference in San Diego.
This award acknowledges vision, leadership, hard work, and innovative use of Esri's geographic information system (GIS) technology.
Tulsa Airport Authority was the only award recipient in Oklahoma.
The Airport uses Esri ArcGIS technology to develop and update 3-D models of the airport, create Electronic Airport Layout Plans for the Federal Aviation Administration and perform data analysis on various properties.
Airport Engineering and Graphics Coordinator, Mike Kerr, leads the airport's GIS initiative and believes the technology adds significant value to the airport's operation. Kerr said, "Every department realizes some benefit from the data. Whether we need to identify obstructions, evaluate leases, or plan construction activities - GIS data improves the safety and efficiency of our organization."
"The SAG Awards identify the organizations and people that are using the power of geography to improve our world and drive change," said Esri president Jack Dangermond. "At Esri, we are always deeply inspired by the passion and innovation of our users. They deserve recognition for both solving their communities' greatest challenges and for their invaluable contributions to the continued evolution of geographic science."
