Tree trimming crews have seen a spike in business since the ice storm. But fox23 found out what residents need to know before attempting to do any removals.

Chris Pippin is the owner of Two Brothers Tree Service and they've had a spike in business since the ice moved into the area.

"Business has been crazy since Friday since it came in, my phone has been constantly ringing," said Pippin.

Chris and his team specialize in tree removal. With the amount of calls he's getting, he has to work with a priority list.

"It's on a first come first serve type of basis as far as severity," said Pippin, "If it's on your house or it's on power lines we'll come to you first. If you just got stuff on the ground you're kind of on low priority and that's just kind of the way it will be for a few days."

Some neighbors eager to remove the dead branches hanging from there trees and yard but Pippin advices them to be patient and to leave it to the professionals.

"You got to have skilled people doing this," said Pippin. "Especially with ice on the trees, they don't fall like there usually suppose too."

But if you must get started on cleaning up your tree, this is what they advise.

"Get some of the lower lines dead. Thin up some of the one year two year growth," said Pippin, "Get any dead or broken that's in it. It's kind of like a cancer you got to get all that cut out because it's going to continue to rot.

Leave it up to experienced tree trimmers. There may be more shocks than electrical once you cut into that tree. You might fell it on your house or even worse possibly yourself.
