The suspected ring leader in a trailer theft operation has been busted.

For almost two months police say Michael Eugene Patterson Senior, 45, has been stealing trailers and cars.

Only on FOX23, Abbie Alford explains the multi-county investigation.

Police working in the Tulsa Police Riverside Division and burglary, auto theft and officers with the Special Investigations Division as well as law enforcement in surrounding counties say this investigation spreads from Creek, Mayes and Tulsa Counties along with the city of Tulsa.

It’s a theft ring worth $200,000 that has been taken down.

FOX23 cameras were rolling as Storey Wrecker hauled off one of the ten or so stolen trailers from 75th East Avenue and Pine Street.

It’s an area police believe where the theft operation started.

"This is probably what we call the hub of the operation. It's kinds of a storage facility fore them before they were taken to different places and gotten rid of," says Tulsa Police Corporal Larry Mark.

At that location police say they found eight to ten trailers and a few stolen vehicles which also led them to Patterson.

He’s an ex-convict who’s served time for theft and drug charges.

Police believe this trailer theft ring could be involved in more counties and more suspects are responsible for the $200,000 operation.

Now they just need to find the owners of the trailers.

“We are still going through the process of trying to identify the trailer themselves and that's the hard part on this because it looks like your trailer and unless you have the numbers to prove that it is your trial it hard for us to put those two together," says Mark.

Police say if there is no serial number on the trailer or the owner doesn’t have a serial number it will be tougher to return the trailers to the rightful owners.

Release from TPD October 6th, 2010-On October 5, 2010 Tulsa Police Department Riverside Investigators working in conjunction with Burglary, SID, Auto Theft, and officers from all three uniform divisions along with deputies from Creek County and Tulsa County served three search warrants for stolen trailers. This was the result of a three month investigation into a trailer theft ring working the Tulsa area.  As a result of the warrants, over a dozen trailers ranging in value from $500 to $20,000 were recovered. Other stolen property recovered include two pieces of heavy equipment, a motorcycle, a stolen jeep and multiple stolen guns.  The total value of property recovered is expected to be well in excess of $150,000. One arrest has been made at this time and additional arrests are expected.  Michael Patterson was arrested and booked into the Creek County Jail.

I paid $5k cash for mine and I made dang sure I got my receipts & record of sale, title, etc. People need to keep them locked up and need to not be sloppy with paperwork. It can help to make a mark on the property that offers some kind of proof that it's yours. For buyers: If you can't get a title then don't buy it, no matter how good the deal.

A HUGE problem I have with this is this means people who have been blamed or possible arrested, prosecuted and put into jail for something they did not do, because of this guy and the men he worked with. What reimbursement or possible action will be taken? Or will these people just be left to have there lives’ punish for this mans actions? I speak out of this because I was blamed for a trailer thief in Creek County. I was arrested and almost put into jail for. Is there is a way to prove this man or the organization he was working with, was the real thief, probably not because it was probably sold as fast as it was stole, but if possible what reimbursement would I receive? Im sure the other people who spent thousands of dollars to fight their innocents that feel the same way, only to get the short end of the stick. I also would like to talk about how the county, they will bully someone into the legal system. Speaking from experience, I was push into the corner to fight for my innocents, which did no good because of the DA actions. my lawyers admitted to me that one of these related counties DA will fight something, right or wrong, so that the county would get paid for prosecuting someone for the legal dispute,. There has to be a way to stand up for yourself with out forking over thousands of dollars. This is a bit unrelated, but I feel this is something that should be put into the publics eyes. Regards,

Well, how about taking a look at the suspects bank account to see if any of the stolen merchandise was paid for by a check. That should be easy to trace back to who purchased the stolen goods. Second, if they were paid for in cash, I would think the suspect could be persuaded to give the names of his customers, or at least a description. Third, I would suggest looking for some of those stolen trailers with the ILLEGALS working in the lawncare and construction areas. I doubt if they had those trailers on their backs when they sneaked across the border. Perhaps this is another reason to have a license tag for trailers also. I would suggest a title, a very small fee for a tag, and no excise tax. The vehicle would have to be registered with a VIN number, same as a vehicle, or a boat.
