Neighbors in Sapulpa are tired of their homes getting broken into. Cecil Scantlin, a hearing impaired man, is the latest victim. Police say Scantlin's neighbor, Jefferson Davis, broke into Scantlin's home when he was asleep last week.
Police say Davis took, money, two televisions, a television stand, and tried to get away with Scantlin's Jeep. A jar of money was taken too, and neighbors found a trail of coins leading from Scantlin's house to Davis's home, right across the street.
"The penny trail literally went from Cecil's driveway across the street to his house, and at 3 o'clock in the morning, we're all out here picking up thousands of pennies," one neighbor says.
Police are thankful for the neighbors' help, and might not have been able to find the suspect without that help.
"They are their neighbors' eyes and ears, and I think it's our duty as citizens to report anything that we see that's a little bit out of the norm."
Davis was charged with first degree burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, and knowingly receiving stolen property. Two others also charged with knowingly receiving stolen property.
