Tulsa police told FOX23 they were on the scene of an injury accident on Riverside Drive between 61st and 71st Street for over two hours, Monday evening.

Officers closed down one northbound lane while they investigated the crash, causing traffic to back up over 1 mile.

FOX23 was there as traffic was backed up and officers were investigating.

TPD worked to clear the scene and divert traffic to prevent any other wrecks in the area.

Police told FOX23 the accident happened around 3 p.m. in a northbound lanes.

They said a driver lost control of his car and hit the center median.

The driver then went over the median and struck a car that was traveling southbound.

Those two cars stayed in the southbound lane and were hit by two other cars heading southbound.

All 4 vehicles were damaged.

All drivers and two passengers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe the driver who initiated the crash by hitting the median had a medical condition that led to the accident.

No specific injury details have been released at this time.

Riverside was reopened around 6 p.m., about three hours after the wreck.
