The legal battle for Baby Veronica is over a little more than two years after it started.

FOX23's Michelle Linn looks at the timeline of the case.

The girl who became known as Baby Veronica was born in Oklahoma in September 2009. Her birth mother, Christy Maldonado, said while she was pregnant with Veronica, the baby's father, Dusten Brown agreed to give up his rights through a text message.

She handpicked the South Carolina couple, Matt and Melanie Capobianco, to raise her daughter. They came to Oklahoma for Veronica's birth and then days later took the baby girl home.

Four months later, in January 2010, Brown filed for custody. At that point he was deployed overseas, with the army.

In September 2011, two years after her birth, a South Carolina court heard the case and in December ruled Veronica should be sent to Oklahoma to live with her father.

On New Year's Eve 2011, Brown took Veronica from the Capobiancos' home, and brought her back to Oklahoma, where she lived for the last two years.

Until late last month, when Brown turned custody of Veronica back over to the Capobiancos, they'd spent more than a month in Oklahoma fighting to get Veronica back after the United States Supreme Court ruled the Indian Child Welfare Act did not apply in this case.
