Tulsa Public Schools no longer has plans to sell the Thoreau Demonstration Academy building.
The school board declared the building near 71st and Memorial as surplus in December of 2011 because it was considered a strong prospect for a sale. The district did not get any bids on the building by the January 27th deadline.
“We know this news brings with it a big sigh of relief from the students and parents of Thoreau,” said Superintendent Dr. Keith Ballard. “In spite of several parties that expressed interest, the district received no formal bids. After a community forum at Thoreau, we realized how important the site is to parents who have wholeheartedly embraced the stellar programming at Thoreau, so we are pleased with the final result. It is a tribute to Principal Tom Padalino and his fine team of teachers, staff and students at Thoreau. There will be no sale of Thoreau, and the issue is closed.”
