It's a new way thieves could be breaking into your home, if they're small enough.

One Owasso woman says intruders came in her house near East 86th Street North and Garnett Road through the doggy door.

She says the burglary was strange from the start, that the burglars didn't seem to know what they were doing. It's one of many reasons she is suspecting kids may have been involved.

They try to sound mighty, but the truth is Melanie Baggett's two miniature schnauzer's are quite small, so their doggy door suits them well.

"It's rather small," Bagget said.

In fact, she told the FOX23 reporter that she didn't think the reporter could fit through the door, so they tested the theory.
The reporter wasn't able to even get her shoulders all the way through the door.

"Now you can see why I thought it was a kid," Baggett said.

Baggett was out of town for the holidays, and when she came back home Friday she found her back gate and doggy door open.

Oddly enough though she told FOX23 she found the house, just as she had left it.

"Nothing was touched. Nothing was out of place. Nothing had been bothered," she said.

Almost.

Baggett later found a jewelry box in a distinctly different place than where she had left it.

That's when she noticed multiple gold bracelets and two valuable rings were gone.

She found it disturbing and confusing all at the same time, and Baggett told FOX23 police found the crime strange, too.

"They were surprised that nothing else in the house was disturbed, and that somebody who is more of a criminal would have probably just grabbed the jewelry boxes and thrown them in a bag."

Owasso police told FOX23 they are aware of recent burglaries and are investigating several around town. They say they have yet to find any patterns forming. However, they do say when numbers are crunched, burglaries are down not only for the month, but the entire year.

I wonder if someone with a long arm could reach into the pet door and get a hand on the knob.
