A Bixby pastor is encouraging other nearby churches to invest to surveillance camera systems to catch thieves who broke into his downtown church.

“I walked in like I do every Sunday morning at 9 o'clock and I noticed the big TV screen in the lobby was missing,” said Pastor Shannon Watterson. “Then I went into the sanctuary and noticed the cables hanging from the ceiling where two more flat screens used to be and several chairs were stacked on top of each other as if they had to climb up them to reach the TVs.”

That’s when he looked down a long hallway and saw the three TVs piled into a cardboard box on top of a child’s wagon from the play room.

“They ripped the sides of the wagon off and put everything on top of it,” said Watterson.  “I do not understand how they were going to leave with the wagon.  There were no cars outside.  Maybe they were going to wheel it out?”

They did not end up stealing anything.  Watterson heard voices and movement when he saw the TVs in the box.  He ran back outside and called 911.  Bixby officers showed up in less than one minute because they work across the road.

“The police told me they could have been druggies searching for items to sell for drug money and that there is a drug problem here,” said Watterson.

Watterson was not angry or scared, instead he felt satisfied.

“The main thing is that it confirms, as a church, we are in the right place, people down here are still in need of an outreach.”

He wants to catch the thieves and point them in the right direction.

“The difference is we forgive.  If people are in need, we'd rather help."

Watterson bought a surveillance system and hooked it up Sunday afternoon.

“I hope they come back, so we can see who they are,” said Watterson.

If you have any information about the thieves, call Bixby police.

Raised in the flax fields they grow like weeds in a garden that's unattended. Pull them out by the roots and lay their carcases in the ditch. :-D With the police that close by it's a disasterous miracle that none of them were found anywhere around. Good luck with your new security system. Better have a feed that goes somewhere over the Internet to a remote location where they can't steal your record of the intrusion.
