Every holiday season there are Grinches who want to steal Christmas.

While shoppers are inside the stores, thieves are outside in the parking lot and in your car.

If your trunk is full or you have an SUV or truck, police said you can use a blanket or a cover to conceal your bags filled with gifts.

One mother and daughter team who had been Black Friday shopping for more than 16 hours made pit stops.

"We trip back to the house once in a while," said shopper Sharon Bell.

Dropping off presents in between stores they made sure thieves wouldn't steal their Christmas.

"Underneath the trunk so they are not out 'hi here I am, come and get me,” said Bell.

However, FOX23 News spotted several cars filled with bags that were in clear view for a thief.

Tulsa Police officers and reserve officers are patrolling parking lots by cruiser, unmarked and bicycle. They’re noticing more than just cars filled with presents.

"We witnessed a lot of people coming out with a large amount of goods and sacks, presents and struggling to carry them to their car. That's always an opportunity for someone to grab something and run,” said TPD Corporal Brian Collum.

Police recommend you make small trips back to the car with fewer bags to put in the trunk.

"People seemed to have tunnel vision, whether it be driving or shopping. You're best defense is knowing what is going on around you,” said Collum.

During the five years of Operation Safe Shopper TPD reports only one car break-in at Woodland Hills Mall.
