A thief who is believed to have an addiction to selling prescription drugs is targeting pharmacies across Tulsa.
The thief is caught on tape at Med-X Drug in the 5200 Block of N. Peoria Avenue, Couch Pharmacy in 400 Block of S. Sheridan Road and Walgreens in the 32 Block of S. 79th E. Avenue.
In several recent pharmacy break-ins police say the burlgaries occure between 4:30am and 5:30 am. They say the thief pries open the door and used a trashcan to collect the prescription pills.
Fox 23’s Abbie Alford spoke with the pharmacist from Med X who says he arrived on scene before the thieves could steal anything from his store.
The surveillance video shows the thief, masked with an OU scarf and duffel bag, the thief pries open the door at Med-X Drug.
The video then shows the thief somehow got spooked.
"I drove in the parking lot and my lights shine and his friend is out in the car and calls him and you can see him talking on the walkie-talkie which scared the pants off him so he knocked the phone off the hook and everything else getting out of here," says Pharmacist Steve Cole.
The thief didn’t get away with any drugs but Cole says as more people are getting hooked on fast acting muscle relaxants the demand is getting high.
Which Cole believes the thieves are earning a quick buck on the street.
"People have told me they can probably sell a Loratab for $4 or $5 a tablet. If they swipe a bottle of 500 imagine how much that would be?" Says Cole.
Modestly that’s about a $2,000 profit in just days on the street.
