The body of a 14-year-old was found Sunday morning in North Tulsa.
According to police, Dario Hogan was playing in Coal Creek Saturday night when strong storms moved through the area. Dario was swept away by rising water in the creek.
Tulsa Fire Department's public information officer, Tim Smallwood said the department received a 911 call around 9:00 Saturday night saying the teen was missing. Hogan was reportedly in the creek with two other teens who also were playing in the creek water but were able to get out.
“One was able to get out and one got pushed down quite a bit, but was rescued out by a stranger from what I understand,” said Smallwood.
He said a task force was established to search for Hogan. Firefighters had four trucks out near East Independence and North Quebec, which is where they started their search. It ended about two miles away from there at East Xyler and North Fulton. The debris was thick and it was dark making their search challenging.
“For those guys in the field they did everything possible to find this young man, and with something moving this quick, as soon as he went under that was probably it,” said Smallwood. “There is s a lot of debris in this creek, and even if you were the best swimmer in the world you get hooked up in that and get caught and tangled you are going to drown.”
Smallwood said the rain water caused the creek to swell about 17 feet high and the water is estimated rushing at about 45-60 miles per hour.
