Tracy Stephan is all smiles, holding the little dog, she thought she had lost.

But, her reason to smile goes way beyond this.

"She was in the hallway, her aid laid on top of her," said Stephan.

Her 6-year-old daughter, Abigail, was a student at Plaza Towers Elementary. Her life was saved by a school aide who shielded the kindergartner from the building collapsing around them.

"Her aide ended up having to do stitches. We're not 100% how extensive her injuries were, but she laid on top of my child and saved her," she said.

While that was happening at the school, Stephan and her two other children were underground in a neighbor's shelter.

When the tornado was gone they came up to find devastation.

"Just collect what we can and rebuild,” said Justin Stephan.

Justin Stephan and his wife say they look forward to a fresh start, especially now that they found Phoenix two days after the tornado. He was frightened and hungry, but okay in the debris of their destroyed home.

"And looking very thankful to be with Mom and Dad. Yes, I as just back there talking with my sisters and we started hearing yipping and I dove and we found her."

“Poor little thing. So the family is all together now. Yes, all complete. We are blessed."

Blessed and smiling because the tornado didn't take everything.
