Welfare fraud is illegal according to employees with the DHS Office of Inspector General. They say last year more than 150 people were prosecuted in our state for welfare fraud. Employees say it's a problem that isn't getting any better.
Many are cheating services such as food stamps, subsidized daycare, temporary assistance for needy families, even medicaid. The penalties for welfare fraud include a minimum $500 fine and up to 10 years in prison.
