A Tahlequah mother faces child abuse charges for allegedly burning her 15 month old child.
The child was taken to the hospital on April 26th and hospital staff found burns on the inside of the thighs, arms and possibly on the shoulder. Workers called law enforcement and DHS.
Court records reveal disturbing details. The investigator noted, "This child had suffered several bone fractures and burns to the groins and genital area. These bone fractures were in varying stages of healing from about 12 weeks prior to the present."
Douglas Dry, Assistant District attorney in Cherokee County says far too often these cries go unheard.
"I think your heart goes out for any children," Dry told FOX23.
Especially ones like this little boy who for weeks suffered through severe pain. The investigator goes on to say, "I then observed I.G.'s shoulder. It was slack and had an obvious deformity that was impossible to not notice. The child visually appeared to be in agony."
"Our heart goes out for any of these children. That's our job is to try to protect them as best we can," said Dry.
They started with removing the child from the home after the mother 19- year-old Jodi Rock admitted she burned her child telling investigators
"She was straightening her hair and that she touched her hand to the iron. She then said she took and closed the iron on the child's private parts."
"As human beings we are all most vulnerable people as children," the assistant District Attorney said.
The mother was arrested and faces one count of child abuse.
Rock’s bond is set at $200,000.
