The University of Tulsa announced this year’s spring commencement speaker, TU alum and bestselling author, Daniel Wilson.

Wilson, the New York Times bestselling author of the techno-thriller “Robopocalypse,” as well as titles such as “How to Survive a Robot Uprising,” “A Boy and His Bot” and “Amped,” will present the commencement address to University of Tulsa graduates at 10 a.m. May 11 in the Donald W. Reynolds Center on TU’s campus.

Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from The University of Tulsa and a doctorate in robotics from Carnegie Mellon University. He has published over a dozen scientific papers, holds four patents and has written eight books. Five of his books have been optioned for film, with “Robopocalypse” (Doubleday, 2011) in development to be the next movie directed by Steven Spielberg. In 2008, Wilson hosted his own TV series, “The Works,” which aired on the History Channel. Wilson’s short story, “The Nostalgist” is free on his website,

“While TU always invites a distinguished speaker to address our graduates and their families at commencement, nothing gives me more pride than when that honored speaker is also an alumnus,” said TU President Steadman Upham. “Daniel is a gifted writer, curious scientist and savvy entrepreneur whose rising international reputation brings even greater distinction to his alma mater.”
