Incredible, unbelievable, surreal – those are some of the words Tulsans are using to describe TU’s win Saturday over Notre Dame, one of college football's most storied programs.
Now members of the Golden Hurricane football team will have a story of their own when dozens of students made sure the team was welcomed back to campus with open arms and loud cheers.
“I am so happy we beat them Irishmen,” one student said.
Five hours after one of the most thrilling wins in program history the TU football team returned to campus.
“I feel great, it was a great win, it's starting to soak in and you know it just feels great to get that big time win,” Tulsa Quarterback G.J. Kinne told FOX23.
It felt great for fans too. TU is the smallest school by enrollment playing Division One BCS Football.
“We just stepped up, we played good football, and we won,” Fan Dustin Devore said.
Devore is still in disbelief, not that TU won, but how they won.
“I did not quite understand why (Notre Dame) threw the ball, but we intercepted it and it was amazing for this program.”
He's already making plans for winter break.
“Right now, we got five wins, one more win and we're in a bowl game for sure,” Devore said.
Kinne's planning to take things one game at a time.
“We have great fans and we're going to need all of them next Saturday against rice
That game will be at home on Saturday at Chapman Stadium. Kick-off is set for 1:00.
