Tulsa Public Schools scheduled a community forum to discuss the possible sale of the Barnard property at 17th Street and Lewis Avenue.
The district is considering a $1.005 million offer from Lindsay Development, LLC for the site.
The forum is scheduled for 6-7 p.m. Oct. 3, at the Education Service Center. It will allow neighbors and other interested parties to discuss Lindsay’s proposal with representatives from the development company and TPS.
The proposal calls for 18 single-family residential lots to be developed on the property.
The TPS Board of Education is expected to make a decision on the sale sometime in October, after the public forum.
Barnard was closed in 2011 as part of the Project Schoolhouse efficiency initiative. The Tulsa School of Arts and Sciences, a charter school, moved into the building in the fall of 2012. A fire broke out early in the morning of Sept. 5, 2012 and the damage caused was so extensive the building was subsequently demolished.
A public request for proposals for the property ended Sept. 19, after which the five proposals received were opened with bids ranging from $421,000 to $1.525 million.
TPS’ Surplus Property Committee reviewed the bids and decided to pursue Lindsay Development’s proposal.
