Tulsa Public Schools scheduled a community forum to discuss the possible sale of the former Chouteau site at 575 N. 39th W. Ave.
The district has received an offer from John 3:16 Mission, Inc. to purchase the surplus property for $700,000. The non-profit agency, which provides food, shelter, clothing and programs to Tulsa’s hungry, homeless and at-risk, said it plans to use the facility to expand its existing programs.
Friends and neighbors are invited to the community forum from 6-7 p.m., Thursday, July 11 at the site. Property owners in the surrounding area were notified by letter about the possible purchase by John 3:16.
The TPS Board of Education is expected to make a decision on the sale sometime in July, after the public forum.
Trish Williams, TPS chief financial officer, and representatives of John 3:16 will be in attendance to discuss the possible sale and to share plans for how the facility will be used.
The former Chouteau property was closed in 2011 as part of the Project Schoolhouse efficiency initiative; students were relocated to another TPS facility (formerly Madison Elementary) that became the new Chouteau Elementary.
