The Tulsa Public Schools Athletic Department is making a change of venue for all home football games of Will Rogers College High School and Central High School.
Effective Sept. 23, all Central home games will be hosted at Milton Stadium, 1919 W. 40th St. They were previously held at S.E. Williams Stadium. The Central Braves will play the McLain Titans tonight at 6 p.m. at Melvin Driver Stadium, 4929 N. Peoria.
Rogers home games will now take place at S.E. Williams Stadium, 1514 E. Zion St. Games were previously held at Milton Stadium.
“We are instituting these changes to address security concerns,” said Athletic Director Gil Cloud. “Our No. 1 concern is for the safety of our students and patrons. We don't want any people there for reasons other than watching the game.”
Cloud said most of the issues don't happen in the stands, but outside of the stadium.
“If we take that school out of that setting and move it to another setting we'll take them out of a potential problem that they had with the local clientele that normally come to that stadium,” he said.
Ticket prices are $6 for adults at varsity games, and $4 for adults at junior varsity games. Student prices are $3 for students at all games. Students are encouraged to purchase tickets at school, prior to the game.
All student tickets purchased at the gate require presenting a valid student I.D.
Cloud said that rule could get stricter if the issues aren't resolved.
"If two Tulsa schools are playing one another, the only students that will be allowed to come are the students from those two schools," he said.
Junior high students must be accompanies by one adult. New tickets will not be sold after the third quarter in the final game of the night.
