There's still no concrete date set for Tulsa Public Schools to receive doses of the swine flu vaccine.
According to Dr. Pam Butler, Director of TPS Health Services, the district is approaching the problem with a sense of urgency, but must wait for the Tulsa Health Department (THD) to receive more doses.
Melanie Christian, Tulsa Health Department Spokesperson, told Fox 23, "the problem is that there's a limited supply, but we're expected to get 3,100 doses this week."
TPS had a planning meeting with health department officials to decide which schools will be the first recipients of the vaccine, based on absentee rate and other factors.
As soon as the schedule and schools are determined, parents will be notified immediately.
"Somebody died from swine flu, it (the vaccine) should be able to get here first and foremost," TPS Grandparent Lonnie Edmundson said. "Kids need it more than anybody."
