The Tulsa Police Department, along with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the National Football League want to remind everyone who will be drinking while watching the Super Bowl on Sunday to create a game plan to get home safely.
Nationwide in 2011, 9,878 people were killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes that involved at least one driver or motorcycle rider with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 or higher. On Super Bowl Sunday in 2011, 49% of all fatalities nationwide were alcohol related.
One way to avoid impaired driving crashes is when everyone huddles up and designates a sober driver to safely transport their friends and family, who have been drinking, home.
Be a team player, designate a sober driver. Fans don’t let fans drive drunk.
Over 175,000 NFL fans have pledged to be designated drivers this season – a new record. They want to come back to support their favorite team again next year.
