Police said a motorcyclist drove into a live power line Wednesday night.

FOX23’s Price McKeon was in midtown Tulsa when police put the crime scene tape up. She said she saw the power line hanging next to a stop sign over a section of the road.

PSO fixed the line but that did not happen until after the motorcyclist drove into it.

A motorcycle was on its side in the middle of the street Wednesday night. Police said he drove into a live power line on North Harvard and East Archer.

Police said they could not release the motorcyclist’s name, but they did say the man was heading westbound on E. Archer around 5:30 p.m.

Cpl. Kurt Gardner said, “He was going to make a turn and didn't see the down power line and hit it.”

Police told FOX23 the driver was alert and talking when they arrived on the scene. They said he was transported by ambulance to a local hospital.

Gardner said, “I guess this power line has been down for a while. A neighbor called it in.”

McKeon tracked down the neighbor who said she made that call.

Lupe Lefthand said she called PSO to report the down line around 11 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The neighbor said, “Everybody, all day kept going around it. Go to it then back up then go around it.”

She said she kept looking for repair crews but didn't see them until after the accident.

Gardner said if you see power lines stay in your car, “or if you’re out walking and you see one down stay away from it because even if it doesn't look like anything it could still be live.”

The motorcyclist’s condition is unknown right now. The power line is repaired.
