Sweat to stand trial for Weleetka shooting deaths

OKEMAH, Okla. (AP) - The man charged in the shooting deaths of two young girls more than four years ago will stand trial.
A judge ordered Kevin Sweat to trial, saying "tragedy has visited our county." In a taped interview Sweat said he panicked when he saw what he called "two monsters" coming at him.
Kevin Sweat made the statement to Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agent Kurt Titsworth during a videotaped statement in September 2011. The statement was played Tuesday in Okfuskee County District Court during a preliminary hearing for Sweat on two counts of first-degree murder in the June 2008 deaths of 13-year-old Taylor Placker and 11-year-old Skyla Whitaker.
Sweat said he had stopped his car on a rural Okfuskee County road when he saw the two girls.
Sweat said he "just panicked" and opened fire with a .40 caliber Glock semi-automatic pistol - then shot them again with a .22 caliber pistol.
