An off-duty Oklahoma City police officer shot an intruder who was trying to break into his apartment Friday night.

Capt. Dexter Nelson said the shooting occurred around 6:45 p.m. at the Deep Deuce Apartments, which are located in the 200 block of NE 2nd Street.

Nelson said the intruder confronted the officer with a gun in the officer's garage. The intruder took the officer back inside the apartment, where the officer grabbed his gun and shot the intruder.

Officials said the suspect, who hasn't been identified, died of his wounds.

Police believe the intruder tried to kidnap someone earlier in the day in the same area of the shooting, Nelson said.
