This week the Oklahoma House of Representatives passed a bill creating the Quality of Education Assessment for Oklahoma Citizens Act of 2010 requiring elementary and secondary schools to determine citizenship status of enrolled students.  In addition it requires parents to notify the schools of the immigration status of a child.

Tulsa's Hispanic Chamber of Commerce said, "This type of legislation will have an adverse impact on children enrolled in our public school system in addition to spreading increased fear within the community.  This bill requires schools to enforce Federal immigration laws.  It requires every public elementary and secondary school in the state at the time of enrollment in kindergarten or any grade in such school determine whether the child was born outside the jurisdiction of the United States."

State lawmakers argue this bill will help the state estimate the cost of educating illegal immigrants.

Oh, one other thing "snowflake", in reference to your comment about doing the research and ignorant comments. FYI in the health reform bill now pending: Page 50/Section 152.... "THE BILL WILL PROVIDE INSURANCE TO ALL NON-US RESIDENTS, EVEN IF THEY ARE HERE ILLEGALLY." Judge Kithil estimates that an additional 150,000 employees will be required if HB 3200 is approved. Where does all this insanity end? This country has actually been invaded and for the sake of votes, and the greed of the employers seeking to reap hugh profits by exploiting the ILLEGALS, the problem is just swept under the rug. This next year will be one of the most important elections in many years. It is time for the voters of this country to stand up and say enough is enough. To the politicians, you had your chance and you failed miserable, so now..."YOU'RE FIRED!"

I agree with everyone except for "Snowflake". Since when do illegals pay taxes?! What version of reality are you living in Snowflake?! Illegal is illegal...period. There is no grey area here....you're either a citizen or you're not. So many of these people refuse to learn English...even when they've lived in this country for 10+ years! There is no excuse for that! Slimjim's right...this is NOT the United States of Mexico! Oh yeah...and screw Tulsa's Hispanic leaders! Of course they're gonna defend their fellow countrymen, legal or otherwise. I honestly believe the more legislation we pass like this, the better! I also agree with Slimjim's quote of "we can't have a legal system which is governed by selective law enforcement." The laws should apply to EVERYONE. The cops here so often just let the illegals slide because they don't want to mess with having to do the paperwork involved. My car was hit several years ago by an illegal Mexican guy who had his 3 year old on his lap, didn't speak English, didn't have a driver's license, and didn't have insurance! I didn't even bother calling the police....all that would have accomplished is raising my premium! This problem is WAY out of hand!

Excuse me snowflake, but just who do you think pays for those anchor babies, public housing, free medical care, public housing, food vouchers, and the list goes on and on? GEEZ, and you call other folks ignorant! You state these ILLEGALS pay taxes! Yeah right! Once more just what part of ILLEGAL do you have so much trouble understanding? Does the word ILLEGAL confuse you? Why don't you pick up a dictionary and find the definition of ILLEGAL. I for one am tired of paying taxes to subsidize the benefits of these ILLEGALS, or even the ones born here as you put it, who live off the government. We have estimated 20 to 30 million ILLEGALS in this country, ( who knows the real number ). Why do we have to bend over backward to accomodate people who are in this country ILLEGALLY? This is the United States of America, not the United States of Mexico. We speak, read, and write ENGLISH. I think it is you who should not be a sleepwalker. By the way, did YOU take the time to vote in the last election? Please don't try to tell me they only take the jobs nobody else will do. That boat won't float. The simple fact is that the employer can pay the ILLEGALS far less wages, the employer don't have to pay any benefits, and the employer knows the ILLEGALS cannot, or will not, report them for workplace violations. I also question just what action will be implemented after the schools do identify the students immigration status. I would guess the taxpayer's will have to fund the hiring of more bi-lingual teachers. Well I guess before long we can all say, " WELCOME TO THE UNITED STATES OF MEXICO "

90 days to become legal, before you make ignorant comments you should do your research. It's not the illegal immigrants who are draining our government, it's the ones who are born here, having children and not knowing who the father is, selling the assistance they do receive for drugs, then you have those who are too good to clean toilets or pick up trash. The illegal immigrants have these jobs and they don't complain or call in to work because they have a headache. Stop saying that they come here and take jobs because in reality there wouldn't be any jobs for the to take if we were working them!! You enjoy eating Chinese and Mexican food that the illegal immigrants bring you. These illegal immigrants pay taxes and don't receive a return at the end of the year, so where is the money? Hitler was voted into office by the very people he slaughtered. Think before you speak, don't be a sleepwalker and do your research before you vote or state your opinion.

Sorry, but I just can't get past the issue that the VAST majority of the children the "leaders" are referring to are here ILLEGALLY. Therefore, their "claims" of unfair treatment ring hollow. HINT: If you're here ILLEGALLY & don't like the laws ... Leave.

What part of ILLEGAL does the Tulsa Hispanic leaders not understand? IT'S ILLEGAL, plain and simple. Why do they feel they should be exempt from the laws that everyone else has to obey? I question why the legal citizens of the U.S. should be required to provide free education and BENEFITS to individuals who are not even citizens of this country. The schools should identify these ILLEGAL students, the parents should be given 90 days to become citizens, or be deported. The ILLEGAL student would be expelled from the school system until they and their parents are LEGAL CITIZENS and entitled to the benefits of being a legalized citizen of this country. WE CANNOT HAVE A LEGAL SYSTEM WHICH IS GOVERNED BY SELECTIVE LAW ENFORCEMENT. The laws should apply to everyone, and be enforced accordingly. I favor House Bill 3384, and only hope that it results in eliminating and controlling the ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION PROBLEM.
