Delaware County --
An area convenience store turned out to be a bit too convenient for people looking to get high off synthetic Marijuana. That store located on Grand Lake is now closed after investigators seized thousands of packets of K2.
Agents raided the store around 3:00 on Thursday and inside they found close to 4,000 packets. Amanda Volkman says she was in a terrible accident after being hit by a semi. Since then, she says she’s had to wear a back brace and has had terrible pain. Because of it, she needs K2 for relief.
"I use it for basically a pain derivative. Instead of Marijuana, I come and get the K2,” says Volkman.
We caught up with her at the Gitter Done gas station where she had driven for miles to buy the synthetic drug.
"I showed up to come get some and I saw the police line and it just kind of floored me. That was actually the whole reason for the trip over here today,” she says.
Amanda even showed us her pipe that she uses to smoke it in every day.
Agents with the Delaware and Ottawa County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force shut down the store - after an undercover agent bought the K2 over the counter.
"We've gotten complaints from citizens of their loved ones being put in the hospital as a result of smoking this incense or lot of potpourri,” says Michael Eason with the Delaware and Ottawa County Drug Task Force.
Not only is K2 illegal - but it can cause serious health problems.
"They are having a lot of side effects such as vomiting, nausea, and heart attack,” says Eason.
Three ounces of K2 sells for about $40 and it's ten times stronger than Marijuana. The seizure was the result of a yearlong undercover investigation. So far, no arrests have been made, but there is some indication that the store owner may have left the country.
