A Stilwell man remains locked up at the Adair County Jail, accused of shooting and killing a man Friday night.

Deputies say 38-year-old Rodney Wilson admitted to police that he killed 53-year-old Rick Harlin, but he claims it was in self-defense.

On Monday afternoon, a judge decided there was enough evidence to hold Wilson and deny him bond. The investigation now continues to figure out if he murdered Harlin or killed him to avoid being killed himself.

Adair County Sheriff David Hardin called in the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation to help with the case.

Hardin told FOX23 that Wilson called to report the shooting himself, and gave himself up to police, claiming it was self-defense.

"Based from what I have been told from OSBI that there's a possibility that that may be true. I don't know that it is. That's why he was put in jail on pending charges, instead of a murder charge or justifiable homicide charge, whatever," said Hardin.

In the past, Wilson has been accused of murdering his stepmother, but was never charged.

Hardin told FOX23 there is no relation between Wilson and Harlin, but he said the two had known each other for some time, but it's still unclear whether the two had conflicts in the past.

"We investigate off the facts. I mean, what happened in the past and your past record, your past history, has nothing to do with how we investigate, or the OSBI would investigate, a current crime scene," said Hardin.

Investigators talked with two women who were at the scene, and they're trying to piece together exactly what happened Friday night. Hardin said the women have lawyers and are not cooperating with the investigation.

Assistant District Attorney Josh King said Wilson is scheduled to be back in court on Jan. 9, and that's when it will be determined if Wilson will be charged with murder.
