Dangerous side roads and cold temperatures helped with Tulsa public school's decision to cancel classes.

The superintendent of Tulsa Public School told FOX23 early this afternoon that there wouldn't be school tomorrow due to the road conditions.

We went to 68th and Memorial to check into parent reactions.

We have here the report officials fill out when deciding whether or not to cancel school.

The side roads and neighborhoods are marked "poor"because Sunday, these streets are still snow packed.

The Tulsa students have one thing on their minds.

"I'm gonna play in the snow."

And it's not classes.

"No school!"

"I am so excited."

But while they are carefree, some parents like Jacob Lee are a little frustrated.
"I don't like it because the streets aren't very bad right now," said Lee.

We talked with Tulsa public school's Chris Payne on the phone.

Payne says the decision was an easy one in this case, and for a lot of reasons.

"Take a look at all they consider, seven out of nine conditions are marked poor," Payne said.

I'm at a Tulsa public school walking on a sidewalk that's near a school crossing.

The sidewalks aren't cleared of all the ice and snow, so the walk is a little treacherous.

Another consideration are school parking lots, many still icy.

Plus they also thought about frigid morning temperatures.

Then, of course, there's the big factor.

"I mean the neighborhoods are still bad so I agree," Payne said.

"I can see the buses having a hard time."

Still, parents are scrambling to make arrangements for the kids.

"I gotta hire in grandma. She's nice enough to come over and watch the kids."

A convenience not all parents have.

Now it's still early in the season and this is already snow day 2 of the 5 TPS has built into its school year.

FOX23 looked into what the school does if they go over their allotted number of snow days.

Turns out, the Tulsa Public school district will extend the school day for students versus adding another day onto the end of the year.
