Local businesses took a hit when the winter weather rolled in last week.

Buy Broken Arrow is one of the major holiday programs that encourage people to shop local.

Several businesses are feeling the strain from the weather and are trying to encourage shoppers to come out to shop.

The ice and snow essentially took a week’s worth of shopping away from local stores.

And that's why the Buy Broken Arrow campaign is encouraging shoppers to buy the tickets to help bolster local revenue.

It's the season Christine Joseph relies on for sales.

"It's just nonstop making chocolates," Joseph said. “When shoppers can't get out they don't spend any money and therefore it cuts into our business. It's time to get out and get it done and now you feel like you are out there racing around.”

All across the city retailers are trying to rebound.
“It is about 40 percent of our annual business, so that is really critical this time of year," Joseph said.
Linda Berry told FOX23 that as the snow melted sales turned around.
"Shopping local is what keep everybody in business, so if you want your favorite shops to stay in business, shop local," Berry said.

The Broken Arrow Chamber recognizes how important that is.

All of the municipalities rely on city sales tax for things like roads and fire.

That’s why the chamber says the final push to shop Broken Arrow this week is so strong.

The chamber told FOX23 that they really want to encourage shoppers to get back out there.

The chamber told FOX23 that roads are clearing up, so it’s time to hit those retailers and help them rebound from some of the sales they lost last weekend.

Even though sales weren't so sweet during the snow, Christine Joseph says it did allow her to stock the shelves and prepare for the rush they hope to see.

This is the last week to buy tickets for Buy Broken Arrow. The drawing will be held on Dec. 17.

Yea I went to my local grocery and they had a checker for every kind of shopper. The cart guy was on a roll. Not everybody suffered.
